  • Training Co-ordinator
  • IT Manager
Expressions of interest close now on the 18 June 2020.

Other Positions:
Gliding Australia is also seeking the following positions:

GLIDING AUSTRALIA INTERNATIONAL TEAMS MANAGER
The Soaring Development Panel is looking for another important panel member to manage the major elements of Australia’s International Teams.  It is a role who works with the Australian Team Captains, who coordinate and lead each team.  Most importantly it is a role that works to establish a consistent approach to how International Teams are put together, long term logistics such as facilities, sponsorships, marketing, working closely with the National Coaching Director, etc.  Previously, this role was heavily involved in the (sometimes controversial) selection of teams but this process will now be managed by the whole SDP, removing it from one person’s responsibility. If you’d like to discuss further contact Jenny Thompson.

TEAM MANAGER 2021 GERMANY
We have still not been successful in fulfilling the Team Manager role for the 15m, 18m and Open Class World Gliding Championships in Germany in 2021.  This role has some funding.  We are looking for someone with some competition experience, organisation skills and someone who works well to get the best out of a group of talented pilots.  There is now a long lead time on filling this role due to the postponement of this year’s competition, and plenty of time to coordinate and make arrangements for the team.  If you’d like to discuss further or have in interest in this, please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. Did you know that Gliding Australia offers a few inexpensive ways to get your family members involved in gliding.  There is a "Free Family Membership" that allows family members to more easily engage in the sport and the club and provides BBL insurance cover when volunteering.  If you have a family member that wants to come out to fly from time to time, you can set them up with a "Flying Family Membership" that is only $60 per year and gives them rights and privileges that are very similar to those of an Air Experience Flight - they can receive instruction but no pilot-in-command rights and they must be a member of a club.  If you have a member of your family you'd like to get involved in the sport sign them up onlineLog in and select the membership tab to add a family member

GPC Badges - FREE!

Achieving your GPC (Glider Pilot Certificate) is no mean feat and Gliding Australia would like to acknowledge this.  It means not only have you gone solo, but you have progressed even further and  can now say “I am a safe, competent and independent glider pilot.”    New (GPC) Badges have arrived and anyone who has achieved their GPC can get one!

SPECIAL OFFER: We have GPC Wings available to all GPC registered members and the first 500 who order will receive these free of charge!  Once the first 500 are gone the cost will be $6 each (including postage).

Clubs and Members are encouraged to get in early and order wings for those who have achieved this milestone, and it would be nice to present them at your AGM or other special event.  Place your order online and Gliding Australia will send them out to your club.

After the enforced break you'll be eager to get back to soaring and cross country flying. Whether you are new to soaring or a seasoned old hand, coaches are always eager to help. Talk with your local coaches and look out for coaching events in your region.

The national coaching panel has made good use of the down time to complete the soaring units for the new Training Manual and the associated Pilot Guides. These will be published shortly. We're in the process of rolling out Silver, Diamond and High Performance coach ratings with Silver the first to be implemented. Silver coach training courses will again be run across the country this season for all eligible coaches and instructors - see the Gliding Australia calendar or contact your  friendly Regional Soaring Development Manager or the the Chair of the Soaring Development Panel.

Quick Survey
For anyone who missed this article in the latest emagazine, Mandy has a short survey for members.  Soaring to the Future (S2F) is the GFAs first foray into 'Club Land', and recent statistics show that it has been successful but is not something that is welcomed equally by all club committees.  The question is – should GFA insist on certain minimum standards for all clubs? We have standards for airworthiness, for Instructors and coaches. Should we impose minimum standards on Club Committee behaviour?  Have your say here in this 2 minute survey.
